Networking with other business owners is a great way to bring people to your own business either as clients or in the form of strategic alliances.

Just because there are people offering services in the market place similar to your own, you should not be thinking of them as your competitors, but rather as opportunities.

In my case, there are plenty of people developing web sites and meeting the needs of there clients, but as the web design industry is so varied, I know that there will be someone out there offering something different than Lonsdale Media, while still calling them selves a Web Developer.  Because of this, I believe there'll always be someone out there willing to help me when I get a client through the door, who wants something I can't do my self.  Conversely, there are other businesses out there who will want my services for things they can't do on their own.

This is why I believe that joining business networks works, and is a great way to build your business, attracting new clients, broadening your list of suppliers and mentoring.  The challenge is finding the right business network that best suits you.
